NutreBeef® Grower/Finisher Feed

Feeding Guidelines

Introduce cattle gradually to growing and finishing rations. As a general rule, increase the intake of grain or high-energy feed by no more than 1 pound (.454 kg) per head per day. Normal intake of growing and finishing rations when cattle are on full feed is 2.5 to 3.0% of the animal’s bodyweight.

Whether feeding a complete NutreBeef® ration or using a NutreBeef® concentrate to mix with your own grains and roughage, introduce NutreBeef® gradually. The feed intake table below shows the estimated number of days required to reach full feed. For example, a 500-lb. calf will need a minimum of 13 days to reach full feed. It is not advisable to accelerate or shorten the timelines for various weights as digestive upsets can occur.

Starting weight Intake as percentage of body weight Days required to reach full feed

NutreBeef® Breeding Herd Feed

Features

Nutrient requirements of beef cows change significantly during the year, depending on whether the cows are bred or lactating. Forage quality also changes during the year. The need for supplemental feeding is determined by the combination of the cows’ nutrient requirements and forage quality.

The general rule is to feed to condition, with a goal of having cows in good condition (Body Condition Score of 5+) at calving time. The feeding table below will help as a useful guide for supplemental feeding.

NutreBeef® Transition Feed

Feeding Guidelines

Whenever calves are subjected to stress, such as during weaning, shipping or processing, the primary goal is to keep them healthy. The first step toward achieving that goal is to get calves to start eating right away.

For Weaning Calves

  • Feed long hay on the day calves are weaned.
  • Begin feeding NutreBeef® Transition on the second day after weaning.
  • If bunk feeding, offer calves NutreBeef®Transition at a rate of approximately 1% of bodyweight at the first feeding. The amount calves eat will vary considerably during the first few days.
  • If self- feeding, monitor intake the first few days to guard against calves eating too much (more than 2% of bodyweight). Overeating is rare and is usually seen with calves that have been creep-fed and know how to eat.
  • Feed NutreBeef® Transition for 14 to 45 days, depending on their stress level and how well they take to eating.
  • As a general rule, feed NutreBeef® Transition until intake reaches 3% of the calf’s bodyweight.
  • NutreBeef®Transition may be fed as the sole ration so you do not normally need to feed hay with this pelleted feed.
  • There are, however, a couple of situations where feeding hay is recommended to address overeating:
    • When bunk feeding and they eat more than 2% of bodyweight per day during the first 2 to 3 days.
    • When self-feeding and they eat more than 3% of their bodyweight per day.

In both cases, hay should be provided to help control overeating.

For Receiving Calves

  • Feed long hay on the day calves arrive.
  • Begin feeding NutreBeef® Transition the second day. Offer calves NutreBeef® Transition at the rate of approximately 1% of bodyweight at the first feeding. The amount calves eat will vary considerably during the first few days.
  • Feed NutreBeef® Transition for 14 to 28 days.
  • As a general rule, feed NutreBeef®Transition until intake reaches 3% of bodyweight. In most cases, you will want to feed Transition for at least 14 days.
  • If cattle reach 3% of bodyweight before 14 days, simply hold their intake at 2 to 3% of bodyweight. This is most common with local calves that have had creep feed and know how to eat.

NutreBeef® Mineral

NutreBeef® Mineral with Superior All-Weather Technology delivers the nutritional support your cattle need to maximize their profit potential. NutreBeef® Mineral offers greater palatability for improved intake, provides vital nutrients that may be lacking in their diet, and helps optimize utilization of forage. Because NutreBeef ® Mineral features Superior All-Weather Technology, it also helps prevent mineral loss due to rain, excessive humidity, and even wind. With NutreBeef® Mineral you can be sure you are providing all the major minerals, trace minerals and key vitamins your cattle need without the losses you can experience with non-weatherized mineral.

Minerals support various functions in cattle and mineral deficiencies can result in unsatisfactory production results. By supplementing the ration with NutreBeef® Mineral you ensure your cattle have everything they need for healthy growth, development, and feed efficiency.

Superior All-Weather Technology

Moisture is the enemy of non-weatherized mineral. Whether from rain or excessive humidity, moisture can cause mineral to clump or harden so it is unavailable for cattle. Even covered feeders offer little protection from the various ways moisture can affect mineral. Only Superior All-Weather Technology helps prevent these losses.

Wind is another major source of mineral loss. Studies have shown that with non-weatherized mineral, losses can be substantial. In a recent wind tunnel trial, minerals with various types of weatherization were exposed to winds of 15 MPH for 12 hours. Superior All-Weather Technology was clearly superior in cutting losses due to wind.

Feeding Guidelines

Whenever possible, NutreBeef® Mineral should be mixed into the ration to help make sure cattle eat consistent amounts of mineral every day. In most diets, desired intake of NutreBeef® Mineral is 2 to 4 ounces (55 to 110 grams) per head per day.

If the mineral is designed for mixing, instructions will be on the tag.

Mineral Feeding
  • Feed mineral in dry, wind-free, rain-protected feeders.
  • Allow one foot of mineral feeder space for every 100 cattle.
  • Cattle will eat more consistently when mineral is kept fresh. Plan feeding so that fresh mineral is provided weekly.
  • Use the location of the mineral feeder to help manage intake. To increase intake, position mineral feeder in areas where cattle gather, such as in watering or shady areas. To decrease intake, move mineral feeder away from areas where cattle gather.
